It seems in the time period since I made this post, the subject matters in the "microsoft.public.windowsxp.general" and "microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support" newsgroups have changed from the "Blaster Worm"/"SP2"/"Spam" variety, to "My browser homepage has been hijacked! What can I do?", which seems to be taking up at least 6 out of 10 posts. My answer to them would be... "Stop using Internet Exploder! The thing has more security holes than a pasta strainer!"
I only use Exploder when I absolutely have to, when a site doesn't function in my default browser, like the Louisiana Works job search site. IE seems to be the only browser I've noticed that is subject to those kinds of hijackings!
