EDITORIAL:Big Brother, 1984....

On the news just now, they were discussing the Congressional hearings on the FCC violations regarding the Super Bowl half-time show. They are talking "stricter rules" for over the air broadcasters. Some "media watchdog groups"(known in my book as religious asshats) are even suggesting the FCC regulate basic cable. WTF is up with these people? If you don't like certain shows on basic cable, BLOCK THEM! Most cable boxes and TV's manufactured since the mid 1990's have ways to block channels or shows with certain ratings, what do they think those little boxes up in the left corner of the screen that say "TV-MA","TV-14", "TV-PG", "TV-G", and "TV-Y" are for, decoration??? They are mandated ratings to work with the V-chips in the TV's. If a parent can't figure out how to program their TV, they don't need a TV to begin with!
In my opinion, laws regarding what can or can't be shown on television should be loosened a bit, not tightened! It isn't uncommon to see a bare body occassionally on television in Europe, and I don't see their children acting any different than the ones growing up over here. This country is just full of prudes. I think the main problem with these religious numbnuts is they are afraid they will feel inferior if they see a body on TV that looks better than they do!
It's kind of like something comedian George Carlin said once, not really on topic, but same principle applies... "Have you ever noticed that most of the people that are against abortion are people you wouldn't want to fuck in the first place?"

I know these views aren't popular, but I've never been one to deal with popularity...

WOW! Longest rant I've had in a LONG time!
