Burn Ban

There are several times that Louisiana isn't quite as "moist" as a lot of the world thinks it is. This is one of those times...

BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Due to the extremely dry conditions throughout the state, a state-wide burn ban is being put into effect beginning this morning.

Under the order, issued by State Fire Marshall Butch Browning and Agriculture & Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, private burning will only be allowed by prior permission of the local fire department and/or the appropriate local government.

The order goes into effect at 9am and will remain in effect until further notice.

The ban doesn't apply to prescribed burns by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, by those trained and certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, or by those who conduct prescribed burning as a "generally accepted agriculture practice" as defined by the Louisiana Right to Farm Law (R.S. 3:3601 et seq.).

Violation of this order could result in civil penalties.
