After my son and I having high definition televisions now for nearly two years, I finally got the Dish receivers upgraded to HD. Most of the channels I watch have a high-def feed, including the local broadcast channels, and I must admit, I'm impressed with the picture quality so far, especially after putting up with pixelated standard-def on the TV all this time. The dish itself also had to be replaced, to pick up a different set of satellites. I'm out an extra $313 for the install and equipment ( I OWN the equipment... so no "lease" fees), but I think it is definitely worth it, since I'm getting a few extra commercial-free HD movie channels now also. The installer made it here earlier than the estimated 12-5pm time given, so he was finished by 1:45pm. Still think Dish could have given me a better deal however, because of how long I've been a customer.
