Radio Yesteryear Completed and TRS Presents Begins
This evening, I digitized the final two episodes of the Tape and Record Show Enterprises series "Radio Yesteryear", which featured episodes from old-time classic radio programs, two "special episodes" of "TRS Presents", followed by the first two episodes of the "TRS Presents" main featured weekly series "Soap", all but one recording from the original "broadcast" audio cassettes...
"Radio Yesteryear: Episode 22, Broadcast Monday, October 27, 1986 at 8:30pm central. Theme Music: Let's Misbehave (Irving Aaronson & His Commanders). "Mercury Theater On The Air: War Of The Worlds" - The original, uncut program from Sunday night, October 30, 1938, as heard on the Columbia Broadcasting System. Orson Welles and his Mercury Theater group presented the classic H.G. Wells story in "on-the-scene" news documentary style and frightened half the country with their "on-the-scene" reports of the landing of creatures from outer space... men from Mars.

Excerpts from the controversial December 12, 1937 "Chase and Sanborn Hour" featuring the "Adam and Eve" skit which got Mae West thrown off of network radio. This show also includes an episode of "Monster Chiller Horror Theater" with Count Floyd, and a lesson on acting in motion pictures with Dr. Tongue and Bruno. Tunes include: Music Makes Me, The Carioca, Orchids In The Moonlight, and the title song. Broadcast in recognition of Fred Astaire's birthday (May 10, 1899).

Stars Catherine Damon, Katherine Helmond, Robert Mandan, Richard Mulligan, Robert Guillaume, Jimmy Baio, Ted Wass, Billy Crystal, Diana Canova, Arthur Peterson.

Episode 22 was the only one-hour episode of the TRSE "Radio Yesteryear" series. The classic "War of The Worlds" broadcast was "aired" on various other TRSE series in previous years, but it was split into various parts those times. This was the first time the broadcast was featured uninterrupted.
The edited "broadcast copy" cassette of episode 23, the final episode of the "Radio Yesteryear" series was missing from the "archives", so what was digitized was a "reconstituted" version, involving digging out the Radiola Records LP it was derived from, and from my "best guesses", included the segments of the classic radio show included on the original TRSE "broadcast". A more complete version of "The Chase and Sanborn Hour" broadcast was "aired" on "The Tape and Record Show" back in season four, episode 361, on October 22, 1982.
"TRS Presents" starts its digitization process with the second "special", since the first "special", which featured a half-hour "highlight reel" of segments from "TRS On Location At Skatetown", and the edited "broadcast version" is currently missing from the archives. The original 90-minute version "broadcast" as a TRSE "special" from Friday, December 31, 1982, and the complete three hour recording session still exists in the archives however.
Special episode 2 of "TRS Presents" was technically a short half-hour "best of" featuring a few skits from the TV show "SCTV".
Special episode 3 of "TRS Presents" was the soundtrack album to the 1933(written on the "broadcast index card" as 1934) film "Flying Down To Rio", as released on the "Sandy Hook Records" label, in all its inferior sound quality, since I'm positive they sourced their "soundtrack LPs" from well worn 16mm prints.
"Main" episodes 1 and 2 of "TRS Presents" feature the first two episodes of what the show was mainly "known for" during its run, "airing" the audio from the TV series "Soap" weekly. I COULD "remaster" these shows using audio from the Columbia House VHS tapes or the series on DVD, but to keep things "authentic" for the time, editing and sound wise, I'm using the original TRSE "broadcast audio cassettes" as the source, only "remastering" is a bit of digital cleanup. The first tape, a cheap "Alcon" bought from the local T.G.& Y store back then, had a rotted pressure pad, so had to fix that issue before it would play back properly.
