Bloopers, Duran Duran, and Hysterical James Stricklin

Tonight, I continued the Tape and Record Show Enterprises archives audio cassette digitization project, by converting the next two episodes of the flagship "Tape and Record Show" from season seven...

"The Tape & Record Show: Episode 447, Broadcast Friday, October 18, 1985 at 10:00pm central. Theme Music: Portable Radio (Daryl Hall and John Oates). "Kermit Schafer's Uncensored Bloopers" - This third annual TRSE special brings you classic mistakes and foul-ups from local and network radio, bulletins, announcements, and television from around the world. Also included are bloopers from released and unreleased TRSE productions.

The Tape & Record Show: Episode 448, Broadcast Friday, October 25, 1985 at 10:00pm central. Theme Music: Portable Radio (Daryl Hall and John Oates). "TRS Album Hour #5 - Duran Duran "Arena (Recorded Around The World 1984)": Side 1: Is There Something I Should Know?, Hungry Like The Wolf, New Religion, Save A Prayer, The Wild Boys. / "Let's Get Small"(Steve Martin) / "TRS Album Hour #5 - Duran Duran "Arena (Recorded Around The World 1984)": Side 2: The Seventh Stranger, The Chauffer, Union Of The Snake, Planet Earth. Featuring Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor, and John Taylor."

The transfer of episode 447 began with having to replace a rotten pressure pad on the cassette (thanks to the easy replacement kits "Sleevie Wonder" sells online). As was the case with all those old Kermit Schafer blooper LPs, it's really unknown how many were authentic and how many were made up. The "added bloopers" in this "broadcast" from various Tape and Record Show Enterprises productions ARE authentic however, including James Stricklin laughing hysterically during an "E.T. Food Palace" recording session, James misspeaks announcing some songs on the "Song Mirage", Randy Haney has issues with skipping records (with Matt Morehead explaining that was the way we saved tape), and Jerry Sanders announces Men at Work's "Down Under" incorrectly.

The transfer of episode 448 began the same way as the previous episode, with having to replace a rotten pressure pad on the cassette. The content of this episode is pretty much self-explanatory, the live Duran Duran album "Arena" (although recorded from the CD version at the time, yet onto an el-cheapo "Swire Magnetics" cassette), with an intermission mid-way through featuring Steve Martin's "Let's Get Small" routine to help pad out the hour.
