Old Time Radio and More Recent Jukebox Fare

Worked on the Tape and Record Show Enterprises audio cassette digitization project again this evening for a bit, completing the next two episodes of season six of the flagship series "The Tape and Record Show"...

"The Tape & Record Show: Episode 417, Broadcast Friday, July 13, 1984 at 10:00pm central. Theme Music: One Thing Leads To Another(The Fixx). "Radio Yesteryear: Part One. A retrospective of the best of old radio programs. Included in part one: Bert Lahr, Billy Jones and Ernie Hare, Baron Musenchasen, Colonel Stoopnagle and Budd, Ed Wynn, Amos 'n' Andy, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Joe Penner, Baby Snooks and Daddy, and Abbott and Costello.

The Tape & Record Show: Episode 418, Broadcast Friday, July 20, 1984 at 10:00pm central. Theme Music: One Thing Leads To Another(The Fixx). "Radio Yesteryear: Part Two. A retrospective of the best of old radio programs. Included in part two: Jack Benny, Fred Allen, Duffy's Tavern, Fibber McGee and Molly, Jimmy Durante and Eddie Cantor, Vic and Sade."

These two episodes included content from the first two releases by Radiola Records, "Jest Like Old Times" and "Son of Jest Like Old Times", which were basically "samplers" of the Radio Yesteryear/Radiola Records catalog. Becoming an old radio fan at a young age in the late 1970's/early 1980's, back then the only way to access them was to either buy LP/cassette releases, or check out whatever the local library had available. Spent quite a few dollars ordering Radiola Records releases via mail order at the time as a result. Got their address via a "Fibber McGee and Molly" release I picked up from the local "Musicland" location. Today however, where "classic radio" is concerned, all you have to do is visit "Internet Archive", and there are thousands you can download for free, since most are "public domain". My how times have changed!

Noticed a few vague "degrees of separation" for myself in both episodes. A while back, I chatted online a few minutes with one of Lou Costello's daughters, who I still follow on Facebook. I've had online interaction with someone, via his relationship with Lucille Ball, who actually knew Gale Gordon, who played the role of Mayor La Trivia in the "Fibber McGee and Molly" segment in episode 418.

Also converted another episode of the "Tape and Record Show" spin-off series "TRS Jukebox"...

"TRS Jukebox: Episode 7: Broadcast Sunday, February 13, 1983 at 2:00pm central. Theme Music: HBO Video Jukebox Theme. - Songs include: Helpless Automaton(Men At Work), Thief On The Loose(Toni Basil), I Can't Go For That(Daryl Hall and John Oates), Even the Score(America), I Can Help(Elvis Presley), My City Was Gone(The Pretenders), Tied Up(Olivia Newton-John), Crackpot History(Adam Ant)."
