In episode 52, James and Randy sing a few "duets". They really rip up "Sgt. Peppers", mainly because they barely knew the lyrics.Randy probably does his best version of "The King Is Gone" in the TRSE archives, although he confuses Ronnie McDowell and Roddy McDowall, mentioning "Planet of the Apes". The JVC cassette deck's auto music scan wasn't working well that day for me to locate "For The Longest Time" at the end of the show, but it was finally located, for an "interesting" version sung by James and Randy, mostly including laughter and giggles.
Episode 53 was obviously originally recorded immediately after episode 49, since it was mentioned "Jacob J. Welsh" co-hosted the previous week. Wasn't "broadcast" until after the James/Randy episode listed here previously however. James seemed "fixated" on Madonna's breasts, but then again, what male WASN'T at the time!
Episode 54 concentrated on songs included in films released around the time. I don't think James ex's beauty school/nursing school plans mentioned in the episode ever panned out though (could be wrong), or James' A/C repair classes (also could be wrong). James mentioned at the end of the episode that the city of West Monroe was paying him $4.75/hr to read water meters. It's details like these which make me think the participants in these old recordings would rather "forget" them after all these years than hear them again. I'm in nostalgic "preservation mode" on these old tapes however. Mention of the weekly "live" format change coming soon is mentioned in overdubs in the closing theme.
Episode 55 was touting the sound quality of the relatively new format at the time, the compact disc. All the songs were played from the first "Elvis Golden Records" album re-release in the CD format. Granted, listening today from a dub of an original analog cassette tape recorded almost 40 years ago takes away quite a bit of any sound difference one might notice. However, since the old cassette recordings are now "digitized", guess the content of this episode has come "full circle" in a pathetic sort of way. There was also a mention by James of some "surprise" Michelle had planned for him at some point. She wasn't "in studio" at the time, so the "surprise" remained one.
Episode 56 started with the end of a "candid phone conversation" between James and Michelle, where she was telling him to hurry up and come pick her up from where she was. I heard "Sherry" mentioned, so guessing James' sister was where Michelle was. This was also a technically noisy episode, a "buzzing" and "crackling" going on throughout the first few minutes. After all the decades since the recording was done, can't determine the source of the imperfections. James totaled "2 out of 5" by the end of the episode. :-P
