Episode 29 of the "Song Mirage" was one of the rare times we "broadcast" an actual phone conversation. James suggested we order a pizza. I made the call to Domino's, using one of those phone handset suction cup devices from Radio Shack. I'd never ordered a pizza before that night. Didn't even know at the time that "Sweep The Kitchen" was a Johnny's Pizza thing, not Domino's. We had to go pick it up though. Apparently, because of "construction", they weren't delivering on our side of the interstate. I'm fairly certain, since I didn't tell the other party they were being recorded, that I probably broke some kind of law. Luckily, these "fake radio shows" were never ACTUALLY "broadcast" over any airwaves.
Episodes 30 and 31 of the "Song Mirage" were abbreviated 15 minute episodes, slightly pitch sped up for time, "broadcast" two consecutive weeks after two consecutive 45 minute "Best Of" episodes of "The TRS Scrap Pile". Those two "odd" episodes also marked a rare appearance of a new voice to the "organization", Ricky Bargery, who didn't stick around long at all, but DID appear in more episodes than Matt Morehead. Ironically, in episode 31, I "blanked" out a word in "The Star Song", although the word *blank* had already been used in numerous TRSE recordings prior to that.
The "Music Time" pilot starts out with James asking "What am I supposed to say?" in a blooper left in at the beginning. "Turn Up The Radio", first song played on the pilot, would later become the "Song Mirage" theme music. The cassette with "Music Time" was yet ANOTHER I had to change the reels to a new housing, since the old housing produced a loud audible squeal during playback. Then again, even though it was on a supposedly "high bias" cassette, it was a "SEL Sound Tech" brand tape, "Manufactured in Hong Kong for Kmart Corporation, Troy, Michigan 48084".
From the recorded phone call from Ricky Bargery in the "Music Time" episode, apparently Michelle and "asshole" were amiss, and Jessica had thrown up. They were supposed to be gone half an hour, they hadn't checked in within an hour and a half. Remember, this was in the age before cellphones.
James and I nicknamed Ricky "Clanghead", because one evening, James, at his place, opened the trunk of a car and Ricky popped up. James started to shut the trunk lid, thus almost knocking Ricky out. Those were "fun times".
