Another Mixed Bag

Transferred old Tape & Record Show Enterprises audio recordings this evening from two shows with VERY different formats, namely "Jerry Sanders' Hit Parade" and "Paul Morrison's Country Corral". Jerry mostly played soul/R & B/rap on his show, whilst Paul mainly played country and traditional blues tunes.

"Jerry Sanders' Hit Parade: Episode 20. Broadcast Wednesday, March 6, 1985 at 7:00pm central. Theme Music: Beep A Freak(The Gap Band) . Songs include: Cool(The Time), Call Me(Skyy), Rockin' After Midnight(Marvin Gaye), Electric Avenue(Eddy Grant)."

"Paul's Country Corral: Episode 17. Broadcast Wednesday, June 4, 1986 at 8:00pm central. Theme Music: Soul to Soul(Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble). Songs: Drifting Down Dixie Road(Lee Greenwood), You Can Tell Them I've Gone Crazy(Ed Bruce), Get Back In the Country(Neil Young), Joggin'(Ray Stevens), The Sunny Side of the Mountain(The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), and Drinkin' My Way Home(Gene Watson).

Paul's Country Corral: Episode 18. Broadcast Wednesday, June 11, 1986 at 8:00pm central. Theme Music: Soul to Soul(Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble). Part one of a two-part all-blues special. Songs: When A Guitar Plays The Blues(Roy Buchanan), Route 90(Johnny Winter), Life Without You(Stevie Ray Vaughn), Blues Had A Baby(Muddy Waters).

Paul's Country Corral: Episode 19. Broadcast Wednesday, June 18, 1986 at 8:00pm central. Theme Music: Soul to Soul(Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble). Conclusion of a two-part all-blues special. Songs: Blue Highway(George Thorogood and The Destroyers), Blues Medley(Hank Williams Jr), See You In Hell Blind Boy(Ry Cooder), Six Silver Strings(B.B. King), I Have The Same Old Blues(Jimmy Johnson)."

Bit of an oddity in the "Hit Parade" episode transferred this evening. Jerry announces the song by "Skyy" twice before it starts. Can't tell you if that was an editing mistake on Jerry's end or mine, since I don't have the "master" tapes. Jerry was the only one in our "organization" who kept possession of the original copies of his shows. I just borrowed and edited them into "broadcast" versions. Always a possibility he could have paused the tape on his end, forgot he announced, and announced again. After nearly four decades, who can remember that far back?

"Fun" Fact: For SOME reason, Paul Morrison never seemed to like Jerry. Apart from them never being in a recording session together, I can't seem to ever remember them being in the same ROOM together at the same time, unless maybe they had a class or two together at West Monroe High School. Then again, Paul didn't seem to think much of Randy Haney either. Can't remember right off which one Paul was referring to when he once said that "It's not that I don't like him, I just don't have a USE for him". Paul seemed to get along fine (obviously) with me, James Stricklin, and Dennis Goodwin however.

Also transferred two more of the flagship "The Tape & Record Show" episodes, which mainly consisted of audio from TV shows and some records, thus the way the name of the show originated...

"The Tape & Record Show: Episode 14. Broadcast Wednesday, July 11,1979 at 5:00pm central. Theme Music: Beethoven's 5th Symphony(Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra). "Gilligan's Island: The Hunter" - A big-game hunter arrives on the island. Upon learning there is nothing on the island to hunt, he chooses instead to hunt one of the castaways--and he chooses Gilligan.

The Tape & Record Show: Episode 15. Broadcast Thursday, July 12,1979 at 5:00pm central. Theme Music: Beethoven's 5th Symphony(Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra). "Sanford and Son: The Surprise Party" - Fred returns from St. Louis to a welcome home surprise party. Lamont must exercise diplomacy and peacekeeping after he bruises the feelings of both Fred and Grady. / A short skit by Will Rogers."

Probably the "darkest" in plot of any "Gilligan's Island" episode. The Will Rogers commentary in episode 15 from the early 1930's still applies to current conditions in government.
