In the ever continuing old audio cassette digitization project, this evening I converted four more "James Stricklin Song Mirage" episodes from the original edited "broadcast version" tapes. Contents of the episodes, as described on the original index cards from the broadcast files...

James Stricklin, "Calvert Mimms", and "Paul Schaffer"(Albert Sims) introduce many of the latest songs, including: Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress(The Hollies), Rappers Reprise(Sugarhill Gang), Coming In And Out Of Your Life(Barbara Streisand), Taxman(The Beatles).

In the "Revenge of the Redundant Flops", James Stricklin, Albert Sims as "Calvert Mimms", and special guest Jerry Sanders, take a look at songs that no one ever really gave a hoot about. Songs include: I Like(Heathen Dan), A Latin From Manhatten(Al Jolson), Cheeseburger In Paradise(Jimmy Buffet), Yoga Is As Yoga Does(Elvis Presley), The Curly Shuffle(Jump In The Saddle Band), I Like Traffic Lights/Here Comes Another One(Monty Python)."
Episode 7 (a one-hour special) marked a slight shift in format, not just for the Song Mirage show, but for every "Tape & Record Show Enterprises" music oriented series after. Prior to this episode, even if there was more than one host any given week, each host would only be heard strictly announcing each song. Starting with this episode, there was "banter" amongst hosts between songs. If only one host, more talk about the songs was provided (re: "Paul Morrison's Country Corral"). Fairly certain the format shift was my addition of a low end Radio Shack branded audio mixer and a couple more low end microphones in the "main studio". Previously, we had to plug a mic into the tape deck "mic input" long enough to announce the song, then unplug the mic and dub the song. I somehow managed the "upgrade" with a "Burger King" salary at the time.
James' wife at the time, Michelle, was present in episode 7. Not actually "hosting", she makes herself known, at one point apparently sitting on James as he's hosting, and cursing into a spare microphone as James is talking. I'm not complaining. It makes the show more entertaining listening today than it really SHOULD be!
Episode 10 might be considered the precursor to the later "TRS Music Show" series, which mainly focused on oldies and novelty records.
Also in episode 7, you hear James ask "Calvert Mimms" when a particular Elvis song was released. This was pre-internet, so the information came from a paperback book I still have in the collection. As for the books accuracy, I can't say...
