Kids Spoiled These Days

On the "Tech News Weekly" podcast, the guest, Katie Notopoulos, from Buzzfeed, said most kids these days are getting their first smartphone around age 10.

When I was 10, my only phone was the one mounted on the wall in the kitchen... with a dial and a long curly cord.

That said, I STILL don't have a "smartphone". My cheap flip phone does all I need... makes the occasional call when I'm away from the house. When I'm home, I keep it on the charger and use the Vonage line.
