The weather forecasters are predicting that we might see a few snowflakes later today here in northeast Louisiana... with the emphasis on the word might. ANY kind of snowfall is a bit of a rarity in this area. Been over three years since a snowflake has been spotted near here.

IF we do see a bit of the white stuff, not much of a chance of it "sticking", since, during most of the timeline of the predictions, the temps will be above freezing. If you're either bored or curious, you can check out the "Living Room Window Cam" from time to time, to see what the weather is like today. A new image uploads every 20 seconds. |

It's getting ready to rain yet AGAIN....Grrrr!

The nearby river is already two feet above flood stage, and creeping up the levees! |

| Craptastic Weather |
[Oct. 22nd, 2009|01:20 pm] |
"The National Weather Service at Shreveport today issued a tornado watch for northeastern Louisiana as a system of storms rolled into the area.
The service said the tornado watch is in effect for all 12 parishes of northeastern Louisiana until 7 p.m. today.
Ouachita Parish is also under a flash flood watch and a flood warning for Ouachita Parish with NWS radars indicating a large swath of heavy thunderstorms and showers moving across the northern portion of the state.
The service said heavy rainfall will aggravate ongoing river and lake flood problems."
Personally, I'm ready for the rain to STOP! You can see the rain HERE...
In other news, watching Leo Laporte's Windows 7 House Party at http://live.twit.tv/. |

| ATT Again?? |
[Oct. 15th, 2009|02:32 pm] |
Okay, since the big storm moved through earlier today, there has been no dial tone on my phone or my moms phone next door... yet my DSL still works (for the time being at least). Go figure.
Emailed ATT Customer Service about the problem... |

| In the dark... |
[Oct. 13th, 2009|11:39 am] |
I was just sitting in darkness for about half an hour... electricity went out. Probably something to do with all this freggin' rain! Weatherman said that it has rained here 22 out of the past 32 days! :-( |

| More Randomness |
[Oct. 4th, 2009|03:40 pm] |
Off work today, didn't get up till almost noon. Been sitting here in front of the computer watching Leo Laporte do his radio show most of the afternoon.
Weather has been dreary all day... non-stop rain. Good thing though is that the temperature hasn't gotten above 65F as a result!
There's been a sudden rash of "trolls" invading the chat room on my website, not sure where the sudden spike is originating from. Been having to put the "bannination hammer" to use.
Checked my Powerball lottery numbers for last nights drawing... as usual, didn't win doodly squat.
Keep having this feeling that I really need to get laid... been far too long! Any offers? |

| Three Facts |
[Sep. 15th, 2009|05:57 pm] |
Three facts that warranted a post from watching the evening news...
1.) Local TV channel KTVE in West Monroe,LA/ElDorado, Ark. really needs to upgrade their "local" equipment to the digital age. The local news is still standard definition, but that isn't the main complaint. When NBC Nightly News started, it was high-def as normal. But since there is some bad weather in the area, KTVE started scrolling the local weather info over the NBC News, which reverts it back to standard def, and the volume increases to 3 times the previous level, the audio receiver going from "Dolby Digital" to "Dolby Pro-Logic". VERY annoying!
2.) Anyone against a national system of health care either works for the big insurance companies, works for an employer that offers affordable health coverage, or has no problem affording the high premiums they charge! They aren't stuck in a low wage job like a lot of Americans.
3.) ANYONE that believes a national health care system would have "death panels", deciding who should live or die, is a bloomin' idiot! They are as easily "brainwashed" as people that think there is a such thing as a "Supreme Being"!
/didn't vote fot the current President, but agrees with him on health care //sits back, waits for a possible exodus of "friends" resulting from this post... |

| Thunderbolts and lightning... |
[Jun. 4th, 2009|08:42 am] |
Big thunderstorms rolled through the area last night, knocked out the power for about 20 minutes. After rebooting the PC this morning, I find I'm having to re-log in to most of my usual sites in Firefox. Blah! |

| New days off |
[May. 5th, 2009|10:07 am] |
Starting this week, and for the foreseeable future, my days off will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays, instead of Mondays and Tuesdays. Wilbur, one of the other dairy department workers, wanted his Sundays and Mondays off again, so the manager gave them back to him. I'll be working the 5am-2pm shift in his place on those days.
Not much else new to report on this morning. I've got a second load of laundry in the dryer. Just finished electronically filing my state income tax. Only getting back $125. That might pay a bill.
Sunday was an interesting drive to work. Left the house around 4:30am... high winds and pouring rain. Had to drive extremely slow... rain was coming down so hard, could barely see 3 feet in front of my truck, even with wiper blades going full steam! Got to work, sat in the truck a few minutes to see if the rain would slack up just a little... it didn't, so I pulled out the umbrella, and headed toward the store. Wind was blowing the rain under the umbrella, so I figured I'd better pick up some speed. Tried to "dash" to the door, but the first step I made, that strange leg pain came back with a vengence... so running was out of the question. By the time I made it to the door, my "bottom half" was completely soaked! Mighty cold in the dairy cooler when you are wearing wet pants!
Wanted to listen to Bill Handel on KFI AM640 this morning, but it's been a "no go" situation. The ad when you open the "Listen Live" button plays fine, but when the main player loads after that, no audio whatsoever, even though the timer on the player is moving. Go figure. |

| Frosty the Grass... |
[Jan. 30th, 2009|11:39 am] |
Here in northeast Louisiana, the temperature dipped to 27°F (or -2.7°C) last night, resulting in a frost covered yard this morning...

Not complaining though. Could be worse... the ice storms in Arkansas... or the sweltering heat onlylisa is experiencing in the "Land Down Under"... |

[Dec. 27th, 2008|06:19 pm] |

At work today, I took my lunch out to my truck as usual to listen to downloaded podcasts while I eat. Wind has been picking up most of the day (still is). A little after 2pm, while I was out in the truck, a HUMONGOUS downpour started, which lasted around 10 minutes. It rained so hard, I couldn't even see the light poles on the parking lot, or the nursing home next door! All I saw was a white sheet of rain!
On the way home this evening, my truck swayed back and forth at the stop lights from the wind. The worst part is just now coming into northeast Louisiana as I type this. Looks like we'll be caught in one of the outer bands of what's left of Hurricane Ike... |

| Longer school holiday |
[Sep. 3rd, 2008|08:26 pm] |
Today it was announced that the schools that were out for Tuesday and Wednesday, along with the usual Labor Day holiday, will now be out for the rest of the week. They closed the schools originally in case they needed to become evacuee centers for the people in the southern part of Louisiana. Well, it's going to be a couple more days before those folks can go back to their homes, and there are still around 50,000 people in this area alone that still have no electricity, because of the high winds and gignormous amounts of rain we received from Hurricane Gustav. So, Andrew will have a couple more days of "free time" on his hands. With me, it's still "work as usual".
Ironically, my Uncle Barrett and Aunt Sybil, who live in a relatively nice subdivision with power lines UNDERGROUND, were without electricity for nearly 2½ days, while we, who live in the "boonies"(semi-rural area) with power lines ABOVE ground, experienced no power outage whatsoever. The DSL died for about 20 minutes yesterday afternoon however, but was back up to speed shortly after that.
Since we live in "The Twilight Zone", our power will probably go out the next nice, clear, sunny day we have! At least that's the way it is most of the time here! |

Getting a HUGE amount of rain from Gustav at the moment. Looks like my central air unit is trying to imitate the "Titanic"...

This is the view out of the "Computer Room" window. The glare in the picture isn't sunlight, it's the camera flash hitting the window screen. |

| Darkness Falls... |
[Sep. 1st, 2008|07:40 pm] |
It got too dark outside for the cam to even register a picture, so the "storm cam" is now back to its normal "default" position.

| Nothing major... yet... |
[Sep. 1st, 2008|03:08 pm] |
It's 3:06pm as I type this, still no major weather here from Gustav, just some occassional sprinkles and wind gusts... but the main band hasn't quite made it yet...

| Northeast Louisiana and Hurricane Gustav |
[Sep. 1st, 2008|10:23 am] |
From the latest projected path, looks like this part of the state is going to miss out on the harshest part of Hurricane Gustav. I live in the northeast corner of the state. We will, however, probably get more weather from it than we did from Katrina... we got absolutely nothing from Katrina, it was nice and sunny the entire time!

In case one might be a tad curious as to what kind of weather this corner of the state is getting, however, I've repositioned the "Bedroom Cam" in one of the windows...

Also, for a while at least, the "Random Streaming Cam" will be on, with the same view as the above mentioned cam. Picture might not be "great", since the cam is having to shoot through a window screen. |

| Booming outside, but not what you'd think |
[Jul. 4th, 2008|08:54 pm] |
Sounds like the annual 4th of July fireworks display at the Ouachita River might be "stormed out", judging from the thunder, lightning, and rain outside. Just as well, since I haven't went to one of those in over a decade anyway! Seen one, seen 'em all!
Another thing I may need to mention to the doctor on the July 18th appointment: I take my daily meds when I awake during the morning. After about 6 hours at work, I get so sleepy, I feel like I'm sleep walking... even develop a case of the "yawns". Never had that problem before starting the mini-home pharmacy they prescribed me... |

| Quickie Post |
[May. 14th, 2008|12:20 pm] |
Just a small post before leaving for work in a few minutes. I'm going to be a walking zombie today, it was thundering loudly ALL freggn' night, I got hardly any sleep at all. Dealing with a major headache also. Forecast for today is MORE rain and thunderstorms. This kind of weather isn't "going to work" weather. This is the kind of weather one should be staying in bed, snuggling with someone special.
That said, I really, REALLY need to find a "friend with benefits"... it's been over 11 years since my last time... |

| Just now trying out the built in FM tuner |
[May. 2nd, 2008|11:44 pm] |
Just now trying out the built-in FM tuner in the new computer I've had since February. On the way home from work, on LA105.3FM, Corey Crowe and another Bob (not the one on "The News-Star Hour") were live on-air talking about the nasty storms going through the area tonight, instead of what they usually air, "Nights with Alice Cooper". After getting home, I finally hooked up that little wired FM antenna that came with the 'puter, started up Windows Media Center, went over to "Music", then "Radio", then put the local station into it, and it works just fine. They are STILL discussing the weather alerts as of this post, taking calls from listeners living in the surrounding areas.
Yes, I KNOW I'm a bit of an idiot by hooking an extra wire to the PC during a severe thunderstorm, but I'm just crazy that way! |

| Updates |
[Mar. 7th, 2008|10:04 am] |
Found one of my sons asthma inhalers, luckily the one with the most medicine in it. Wasn't in his room at all. Apparently he had carried it into the computer room and sat it down on the podium thingy the cat sits on to look out the window, cat later knocked it off on the floor, thought it was a toy, and swatted it around a bit, causing it to go halfway under the chest of drawers in the room (at least that's my theory, because of where it was found). I was putting away some bill stubs in the chest of drawers yesterday morning, and saw a bit of something red sticking out from the bottom of them. It was the inhaler. My son now has instructions to leave it in the kitchen next to the pill box where his other medicines are kept, that way everyone will know where it is!
Turns out, I found out yesterday, that Kenny at work isn't going to Baton Rouge after all, according to Joey (the Dairy manager), the "emergency" Kenny had seems to have passed, and he'll be back at work today.
Got a "profit bonus" on my paycheck yesterday. Always good to have a little extra "moola"...
Just yesterday, it was in the mid 60's F outside. Overnight, with high winds, a cold front moved in, and temp has dropped to 40F. Cloudy outside, they are predicting a mix of rain and snow. Gonna be a dreary day. I'll be at work from 11am-8pm. |

| Who ordered the cold, wet weather? |
[Apr. 14th, 2007|09:15 pm] |
I was comfortable in my short sleeves when I went to work this morning, but by the time I left, I was freezing! On the way home, light percipitation was falling, enough to where I had to turn my truck's wipers on. Damn Louisiana weather!
In other news, two of the six scheduled "cart people" at the job called in today. It got so bad before the other two scheduled at 2pm came in, that the manager and one of the co-managers had to come out on the lot to help out. Chris, one of the few reliable people we have, said the management is probably "afraid" to let the habitual no-shows go, because they have such a hard time finding people who want to do the job. Me, I say, if they don't want to work, let 'em go! If they aren't there, it won't make that huge of a difference anyway.
I'm scheduled off tomorrow. Already warned Andrew, that if the phone rings tomorrow, look at the caller-ID before answering. If it says "Wal Mart Supercenter", DON'T answer it... let the answering machine answer instead! |
