Reruns...oh, well... [Oct. 10th, 2009|03:56 pm]

[Current Mood | tired]

Made it home from work early enough today to listen to some of Leo Laporte's "The Tech Guy" radio show, but this weekend, it'll be reruns. The host is away at "TEDx" in Dubai, he thought earlier he'd be able to do the show remotely from there, but this was on his Twitter today...

"Looks like we'll be doing re-runs of the Tech Guy this weekend. It's way too expensive to make an international ISDN call. Sorry!"

Guess it might be a good time to catch up on some DVD viewing instead... don't have to be at work till 11am tomorrow.

[Current Music |Leo Laporte "The Tech Guy" on KFI]

Just in from work, was in the department by myself until 1pm, the last hour I was working. Sitting here now listening to the rest of Leo Laporte's radio show on KFI, sipping a nice strong drink! Work two more days, then off Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heard a bit more about what happened to Wilbur, the co-worker who died. Heard around the store he had a double aneurysm, no other details yet.

The last two days, the big news here in the West Monroe area has been about some houses built around the levee of the Ouachita River, which, after the high water we had recently, are now teetering on falling INTO the river, because the soil eroded. All I can say is, I have no sympathy whatsoever for those people! They were dumb enough to buy property literally hanging over a fairly large body of water!

New days off [May. 5th, 2009|10:07 am]

[Current Mood | blah]
[Current Music |Nothing on KFI AM640's internet stream]

Starting this week, and for the foreseeable future, my days off will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays, instead of Mondays and Tuesdays. Wilbur, one of the other dairy department workers, wanted his Sundays and Mondays off again, so the manager gave them back to him. I'll be working the 5am-2pm shift in his place on those days.

Not much else new to report on this morning. I've got a second load of laundry in the dryer. Just finished electronically filing my state income tax. Only getting back $125. That might pay a bill.

Sunday was an interesting drive to work. Left the house around 4:30am... high winds and pouring rain. Had to drive extremely slow... rain was coming down so hard, could barely see 3 feet in front of my truck, even with wiper blades going full steam! Got to work, sat in the truck a few minutes to see if the rain would slack up just a little... it didn't, so I pulled out the umbrella, and headed toward the store. Wind was blowing the rain under the umbrella, so I figured I'd better pick up some speed. Tried to "dash" to the door, but the first step I made, that strange leg pain came back with a vengence... so running was out of the question. By the time I made it to the door, my "bottom half" was completely soaked! Mighty cold in the dairy cooler when you are wearing wet pants!

Wanted to listen to Bill Handel on KFI AM640 this morning, but it's been a "no go" situation. The ad when you open the "Listen Live" button plays fine, but when the main player loads after that, no audio whatsoever, even though the timer on the player is moving. Go figure.

[Current Music |News-Star Hour/Net@Nite podcast recording]

Trying to keep up with two online video streams at the moment... Leo Laporte doing his TWiT podcasts (he got his Tricaster working)...

And "The News-Star Hour"... neither regular host is there, but Elizabeth Fitch is better on the eyes than Corey Crowe (she's engaged however)...

That was fun! [May. 28th, 2008|11:48 pm]

[Current Mood | geeky]

Not long after getting in from work this evening, got a "StickamAlert" over AIM stating that "The Giz Wiz" was broadcasting. Thought it was odd, since he wasn't doing shows for Leo Laporte today, but went there anyway. Dick DeBartolo seems to be having a blast with Stickam, he turned it on while doing a segment on a radio show that can be heard HERE.

There were about 12 or so people in the Stickam chat. He mentioned on his live radio segment about an early digital music player, a 32MB model that cost $250 back when it came out. In the chat I made mention of the first CD player I bought, back in early 1984, that cost $599. He seemed intrigued by that, and wanted the specifications. Told him I no longer have the manual that came with it, so I'm a bit in the dark about the EXACT specs, but I told him I have pictures of it (front, side, and rear) on an old journal entry. He asked me to email him a link to the entry, so I did.

Guess you could say that was my "brush with greatness" for the day (not that I have many of those however!). Here's a screen capture of the broadcast...

Quick Question (or maybe not)... [May. 15th, 2008|01:52 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Current Mood | drunk]
[Current Music |another freggin' downpour outside, and sons crap music]

I worked 1-10pm today, which had my lunch hour between 5-6pm, the time the "News-Star Hour" is aired live on local radio (KMLB 540AM), so, as usual, I went out to my truck on the parking lot to listen to it, catching it around 20 minutes into the show. Corey Crowe and Bob Teague mentioned my "blog" posts about the show yet again. Think Bob mentioned something about how big his head looked in the still I posted.

So, I decides ta (yikes, sounding like Bill Saluga doing his Raymond J. Johnson,Jr. schicht) download the "Wednesday" podcast to hear the first 20 minutes of the show. Hear my name in the opening. Later, I realize, they haven't uploaded the "wedtalk" file for this week yet. They mentioned my name last week at the top of the show, I missed it live apparently. In the downloaded show (a week old apparently), they refer to me as their "favorite listener". Guess because I'm getting the show a "global reach" as Bob once said. I'm "global?" apart from my friends in Great Britain, Canada, and Australia? That's not the "quick question" however, but feel free to comment! ;-)

Main reason I like the show so much is the banter between Corey and Bob, reminds me of the old TRSE days, when my friends and I recorded fake radio shows on cassette. Some of that banter was about the same. I used decent equipment to record the shows, and the tapes I've transfered to CD sound better than the original recordings, hardly no static at all ("FM"?) Had a Radio Shack mixer, variety of mics, even sounded decent when doing a video simulcast. Used a cable splitter at the time (1985), to split the audio from the cassette recorder (which was stereo) to the Emerson 2-piece VHS camcorder bought at Howard's Brandiscount (which was mono):

Mic placement was a bit "rudementary", no mic stands at the time, did what I could do, but it seemed to work, especially on the original audio version.

Not tryin' to brag on my results with makeshift audio equipment, but my friends that made the recordings back in the day (mostly the 80's), have been surprised their voices have been preserved so well till 2008.

I know Bob Teague is reading this via the Facebook feed of my LiveJournal. About the only thing I post directly to Facebook is my status. :-)

Question: If local radio personalities mention one (on more than one occassion), and the one is making occassional blog posts about the show, but hosts acknowledge the exposure may give the show a larger audience, is the blogger being a nusance or a help?

Just now trying out the built in FM tuner [May. 2nd, 2008|11:44 pm]

[Current Mood | tired]

Just now trying out the built-in FM tuner in the new computer I've had since February. On the way home from work, on LA105.3FM, Corey Crowe and another Bob (not the one on "The News-Star Hour") were live on-air talking about the nasty storms going through the area tonight, instead of what they usually air, "Nights with Alice Cooper". After getting home, I finally hooked up that little wired FM antenna that came with the 'puter, started up Windows Media Center, went over to "Music", then "Radio", then put the local station into it, and it works just fine. They are STILL discussing the weather alerts as of this post, taking calls from listeners living in the surrounding areas.

Yes, I KNOW I'm a bit of an idiot by hooking an extra wire to the PC during a severe thunderstorm, but I'm just crazy that way!

Oh, wait.......... nevermind....

Late Lunches [Apr. 25th, 2008|10:51 am]

[Current Mood | tired]

The past two days, I've had to postpone my lunch at work by up to an hour, because of delivery trucks showing up earlier than usual. Normally, my lunch falls in the 5-6pm hour, so I go out to my truck and listen to "The News-Star Hour" on the radio. Nothing worthwhile on the three local AM talk stations worth listening to after that (could care less about Michael Savage), so just now, I put some fresh audio podcasts on my recently purchased MP3 thingy to listen to.

Working 12-9pm today, still not quite rested from yesterday yet. Remembered to pick up a container of coffee last night after work though. Darn stuff done went up in price yet AGAIN! Last time I bought the Foldgers Dark Roast blend, it was $8.68... last night it was $9.58! When will it ever end?!?

/NEEDS coffee in the morning to "get started"!

///watched on main feed page, listened via VLC Media Player...

Corey Crowe and Bob Teague just mentioned me on "The News-Star Hour" (5-6pm US central time)... apparently my post about their small radio studio made their listenership go up a bit... "globally" even...

They didn't mention the original LiveJournal post however, they found it on Facebook... I have my LJ posts "feeded" there automatically.

[Current Music |Bill Handel on KFI-AM640]

Just returned home from voting. There were some state constitutional amendments on the ballot (voted FOR most of those), district judge race (voted Leehy), sale of Glenwood Hospital to a corporation (voted FOR), and two tax adding items for the sheriff's department and the correctional center (voted AGAINST both... don't need more taxes, and all the police jury is doing is wasting money anyway that could have went for those services). They got some new voting machines since last time I voted. We used to have those "lever" machines, now they've got push screen electronic ones.

Now, getting comfy in my desk chair to listen to the online stream of Leo Laporte's radio show in a few minutes...
